IVAN BASOV
Ivan Basov began developing the knowledge and experience that would shape his future career from an early age. He studied at several art schools, including Start and the V. A. Serov Children’s Art School, and from childhood he was a winner of regional and city art competitions.
He graduated with honors after six years of study at the S. G. Stroganov Moscow State Academy of Arts and Industry, specializing in Furniture Design. As part of his graduation project, he created an outdoor furniture collection for the company Forester.
While still a fourth-year student, Ivan began teaching at the Furniture Design Department of the same academy where he studied. Before completing his education, he had already started working professionally: creating prototypes at the First Moscow Model Workshop and developing furniture designs in the architectural studio of Sergey Surovtsev and Pyotr Bragovsky. After graduation, he worked as Art Director at the industrial design studio Art-Up and as Lead Architect at Megre Interiors. Ivan considers his experience at Art Bureau 1/1 by Elena Solovieva and Ilya Klimov particularly valuable.
Through his private practice, Ivan has designed furniture and objects for Fors Furniture, the Heritage Gallery, brands such as Mrs Ruby, Ceramum, and Edomo, as well as for private clients and interior design studios. In 2018, he won the Salone Satellite Award in Milan with his Une Fleur coffee table project, which was recognized as one of the highlights of the year by Salon magazine. In 2019, his BASMACONCEPT furniture project won the Russian stage of Moscow Design Week and became a finalist at Milan Design Week. In 2020, he was included among the Top 15 product designers in Russia according to AD magazine (AD Top 100 2020).
Since 2014, Ivan Basov has been teaching at the British Higher School of Art and Design, where he founded the Furniture Design program, realizing his vision of high-quality professional education in this field.
Since 2017, he has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists. His works have been presented at the Union’s exhibitions and were selected for the anniversary edition dedicated to the organization’s 90th anniversary.
Ivan feels closest to the concept of an “artist-designer”:
“My work is closer to art, philosophy, and research than to the pragmatic execution of a given task.”
For MODENATURE, Ivan created a complete collection united by a coherent visual language, in which the brand’s DNA is clearly reflected.
