OLGA POGORELOVA

Olga Pogorelova graduated from the V. G. Shukhov Belgorod State Technological University with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and later completed the Furniture Design course at the British Higher School of Art and Design, curated by designer Ivan Basov.

When creating interiors and objects, Olga draws inspiration from natural and folk motifs, from simple, understated forms, and from objects that carry meaning rather than purely decorative value. For her, the essential principles are logic and maximum efficiency:

“Even when looking at the creativity of northern peoples, there are no unnecessary or purely decorative objects — everything follows a clear logic, everything has a purpose. I like creating projects filled with ideas. I appreciate that interiors today are moving away from impersonal, magazine-like ideals and increasingly include objects that have a personal meaning for a particular person.”

Olga acknowledges the significant influence of Ivan Basov on her creative approach. She is also inspired by the work of Elena Solovieva from Art Bureau 1/1. Among international designers, she particularly admires Vincenzo De Cotiis:

“He does not fit my definition of folk and natural aesthetics, but it is impossible not to admire his attention to detail, his complex and precisely balanced forms — every object he creates is a true work of art.”

Olga has a deep interest in history and devotes considerable attention to exploring connections with cultural roots. She is particularly inspired by Russian artistic heritage and the relationship between traditional motifs and nature:

“Our culture, especially at the beginning of the 20th century, was strongly influenced by folk motifs, which are inseparably connected with nature. That is why I love the work of Bilibin, as well as the Diaghilev Seasons with the designs of Benois and Bakst.”

The “Toys” collection, originally created as her graduation project at the British Higher School of Art and Design and later reinterpreted in the aesthetic language of MODENATURE, is a reflection on childhood, courage, imagination, and even a certain sense of freedom and spontaneity. The collection includes a shelving unit, a floor lamp, and a chair. Their expressive artistic character was inspired by nature and by the vibrant ornamental drawings of Léon Bakst. Olga Pogorelova is currently developing additional pieces within this collection.
